Environment

Sustainable is one of the University’s core values: Green thinking is at the heart of all we do. Our common goal is to respect the planet and we’re committed to sustainable practices, both on the global stage and in our own working environment.

We aim to manage our operations in ways that are environmentally sustainable, economically feasible and socially responsible through all our activities including infrastructure development and our influence and effects on the wider community.
Tackling climate change through carbon emission reductions is our key priority.

Flagship projects in 2009 & 2010:

•    We became a 10:10 University in September 2009 when we joined the national 10:10 carbon reduction campaign as one of the first universities in the country.
•    We launched the Degrees Cooler project as part of the national, Defra-funded two-year project, led by National Union of Students.  Degrees Cooler comprises Green Impact  (a staff behaviour change campaign) and Go Green (student-led environmental campaigning).
•    We have benchmarked our corporate social responsibility performance in two consecutive years against other UK universities through the Universities That Count survey.
