What is the Graduate Internships Project?
The University of Westminster has put in a successful bid to HEFCE to fund between 30 and 50 Graduate Internships with national and regional employers.
- Duration: A min. of six weeks and max. of eight weeks
- Eligible interns: All graduates of 2008 and 2009 who are looking for employment options
- Eligible organizations: Digital industry, financial and professional services, small businesses (any sector)
- Payment terms: The University will contribute a maximum of £100 per week towards the wages of the intern, to match employer contribution. There is no maximum level to the employer contribution but at the very least National Minimum Wage rates will apply.
What are the benefits to business?
- Interns can assist with special events and/or short-term projects.
- Interns may offer new ideas and innovative approaches.
- Interns are typically self-motivated. They're eager to get experience!
- Mentoring an intern provides your staff member an opportunity to develop supervisory skills.
- An intern can be evaluated and trained for possible future employment.
- Providing internships can be a cost-effective solution for situations not requiring long-term employment.
- An employer's visibility on campus is increased when promoting internships.
What can interns do?
- Short term or specific projects relating to:
- PR/marketing
- Market research
- Business development and planning
- Finance
- Administration/Office management
- IT software development/design
- Customer services/enquiries
How does the process work?
- Employers submit their internship opportunities, along with a job description and the skills and attributes required, before 31 July 2010.
- Graduates submit an application form and CV to us.
- We hold the details and contact students if their skills and attributes match the specific requirements of an internship.
- We will refer the application and CV to the relevant employer.
- The relevant employer then selects candidates to interview.
- The employer will make offers of appointments to the successful candidate(s) and inform us.
