Got a great idea?

10 grants of £2000 for staff-student teams to unlock the potential of entrepreneurial ideas

Ten £2000 grants will be awarded to qualifying enterprise teams across the University. The grants will allow teams to demonstrate that an idea could work and develop into a sustainable commercial or social enterprise.

Teams must include at least one member of University of Westminster staff and one undergraduate or postgraduate student. Teams are also encouraged to include alumni to bring their real world knowledge to the development of the idea.

Key dates

  • Deadline for final proposal submission: 10am, 15 March 2010
  • Results will be announced 15 April 2010

Is your idea original/novel?

If you have an idea, you must first of all do some checks to ensure that your idea is novel. This will save you time in the long run and proof of novelty checking will also be required as part of your application. We recommend that you use a search engine to search terms related to your idea (e.g. Google) and for Intellectual Property, please use the following website:

If you would like some early feedback on your idea, we are offering you the opportunity to meet with the Director of Research & Enterprise Services, Dr. Alun Tlusty-Sheen and Business Development & Commercialisation Manager,  Eilidh Macdonald.

Further information

The top three Westminster applications will be put forward for a head-to-head competition with the top three applications from Royal Holloway University and the winning three entries will receive book tokens. (Date to be confirmed, but likely to be announced May 2010).
