Centre for Urban and Regional Governance

City-regions are the drivers of economic competitiveness in modern states. Alongside rapid economic and social change is a continuing search for the right scale – the region, the city-region or sub-region - at which to manage dynamic economies and other urban challenges. Many cities find themselves restricted in their policy responses by administrative, historical and cultural divisions between 'city' and 'region'. It is this interface between city and region, in its varying manifestations, and including both theory and practice, which is the main focus of CURG's research interests and activities.
