The importance of effective leadership and management in the public, voluntary and independent sectors is recognised throughout local and national government as well as by people who use the services that they provide. Policy and workforce development initiatives stress that it is important to not only train managers but also to educate them to understand the implications of their decision making and thereby to aim to ensure high quality organisational performance.
Eligibility
The course attracts people who are:- newly appointed, experienced or aspiring managers
- currently working in the public, voluntary and independent sectors
- looking for a nationally recognised management qualification in Health and Social Care
and those who:
- wish to progress their career
- are interested in improving their practice
- want to join a learning environment that allows them to learn and share experiences from others working in similar settings
Course overview
The University of Westminster's part-time Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Managing Health and Social Care courses are designed to combine the theory of leadership and management with the everyday tasks of management at work. They have been running very successfully for the last 20 years throughout the UK, educating hundreds of managers
Both programmes have been developed to provide an opportunity to:
- share the values and beliefs of other people in the public, voluntary and independent sectors
- reflect the importance of joint working and working in partnership
- reflect the changing nature of the working environment
The Certificate Programme lasts 12 - 14 months while the Diploma Programme spans 18 - 24 months. One follows on from the other. Both are supported open learning programmes of part-time study that involve one day per month release for learning set activity within the workplace setting, with the expectation that students will continue their studies at home in between learning set attendance.
