PRINCE2® Short Courses

PRINCE2 is the popular and effective project management method, used in more than 150 countries around the world. Developed by the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC), the method is non-proprietary, which means that anybody is free to use it. The method is controlled by an accreditation scheme administered by APMG, the company assigned by the OGC to certify PRINCE2 professionals and PRINCE2 trainers.

There are two PRINCE2 certificates, the PRINCE2 Foundation and the PRINCE2 Practitioner certificates. Both certificates are based on the method’s manual, Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2, published in 2009 by the UK’s Stationery Office.

Westminster is one of a handful of universities that have attained PRINCE2 Accredited Training Organisation status and are therefore eligible for providing short courses leading to the two PRINCE2 certificates.

The PRINCE2 Foundation certificate is obtained after a 1-hour test devised to show understanding of the basic terms of the method. The test takes place at the end of a three-day course. We run such courses regularly, either as a three-day block or across three Saturdays.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate is obtained after a 2½-hour test, designed to ascertain your understanding of how the method is used in practice. The test is run at the end of the two-day PRINCE2 Practitioner course. The Practitioner courses follow the three-day PRINCE2 Foundation courses. Only holders of the PRINCE2 Foundation certificate are allowed to sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner test.

You can also take both the courses together.

You may find it helpful to also visit other official websites, such as www.apmg-international.com/APMG-UK/ or www.ogc.gov.uk and search for 'PRINCE2' to find out more about the method.

Following the popularity of project management, PRINCE2 has become a welcome addition to any modern CV. According to a recent report ‘an average of 1.2 million project management positions will need to be filled each year through 2016’ [Anderson Economic Group, October 2008]

PRINCE2® is a Registered Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce in the United Kingdom and other countries.
