Teaching
Professor Gough's knowledge of, and expertise in, financial services has enhanced her research-led teaching particularly on the specific modules of Personal Financial Management and International Financial Services. Course design in a business school involves combining theory and practice to meet the needs of today’s business graduates. Professor Gough uses her practical financial services management experience, as well as her current research activities, to design and deliver modules which incorporate skill development, as well as application of knowledge to meet these needs.
Research
Consultancy and professional practice
Professor Gough has over 25 years experience, both full and part-time, in public and private equity markets. She was a key member of the team through the major European privatisations (BT, Deutsche Telecom); the team was consistently rated in the upper reaches of Investor Surveys. Also during this time, she obtained valuable skills in the merger and acquisitions of insurance, fund management and financial services companies, with clients such as Standard Life, AXA and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Over the course of her career, she has built up very extensive commercial experience across a wide range of purely commercial projects and commercial-academic joint ventures. Professor Gough has been involved with more than ten formal Knowledge Transfer Partnerships; currently the School has two. She also has developed partnerships with national organisations (eg The National Association of Pension Funds, NAPF) international universities, Government (eg The Department of Work and Pensions) and commercial companies, both to generate revenue (where appropriate) and to raise the Business School’s profile both nationally and internationally.
