Biography

Kelechukwu Ihemere is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, Linguistics and Cultural Studies. He was educated at the University of Jos (BA Honours in English) and the University of Newcastle (MA in English Language and Linguistics; PhD in Linguistics). He has taught at the International House Language School Moscow – Russia, University of Newcastle, University of Central England and the University of Northumbria. 

 

Teaching Interests

Sociolinguistics, the Sociology of Language, Anthropological Linguistics, Pidgin and Creole linguistics, the analysis of conversational code-switching in bilingual communities, and corpus linguistics - especially problems of bilingual spoken corpora, bilingual education and cross-cultural pragmatics. I would be interested in hearing from prospective students wishing to pursue postgraduate study in the above listed areas. Suggestions for interdisciplinary projects are also welcome.
