Over the past 10 years, the web has become an important place for conducting psychological research. Within the field of cognitive ageing, several web-based studies have examined the way in which cognitive abilities vary with age, some showing evidence of cognitive decline under the age of 40. I will discuss the work I've conducted that looks at cognitive development and decline from puberty to retirement age, covering task switching, the Simon Effect, change blindness along with other measures. I will also evaluate some of the potential pitfalls, confounds and caveats to web-based ageing research, although I will - unsurprisingly - conclude that it can complement more traditional controlled lab-based research rather well.
