General Information
Jo graduated in Psychology from London University and completed a part-time Masters while working as a Psychologist in Pentonville prison. She obtained a PhD on social skills and alcohol misuse and lectured in Psychology at Thames Valley University. She then took up the post of Clinical Research Manager for the Mental Health Foundation, a national charity. In 2001 she joined the Safer Custody Group of the National Offender Management Service, where she carried out research into reducing suicide and self-harm in prisons. Jo joined the University of Westminster in 2006.
In 2008 Jo was commissioned by the Home Office and Border Immigration agency to review suicides by Foreign National prisoners. In 2010 she did an evaluation for the Department of Health on suicide training for staff in Approved Premises. Her current research interests include self-harm and suicide, coping , alexithymia, and students experiences of work placements.Publications
