General information

Catherine Loveday is a graduate of the University of Westminster (formerly PCL) and has a PhD in the neuropsychology of ageing, which was supervised by Alan Parkin (University of Sussex) & Brenda Walter (University of Westminster). In addition to her teaching and research activities, she is also an active member of the BPS, as Deputy Chair to the Standing Conference Committee and a member of the Research Board.

Learning and Teaching

Catherine is the course leader for the BSc Cognitive Science award and is a principal lecturer and teaching fellow with particular interests in neuroscience, neuropharmacology, cognitive psychology and psychology of music. She has a keen interest in innovative assessment practices and an enthusiasm for the effective use of technology to enhance learning. She is currently heading a project to look at e-submission practices within and outside of the university.

Research

Current projects include the cognitive neuroscience of amnesia (with Prof Martin Conway); the psychobiology of adolescence (with the PSRG); the neurobiology of anorexia nervosa; neuropsychological implications in congenital hydrocephalus (with Joanna Iddon, Prof John Pickard and Richard Morgan); the cognitive psychology of music (with Ludovico Minati); music therapy in neurorehabilitation (Northwick Park Hospital). Catherine’s particular area of expertise lies in cognitive assessment (especially memory and executive function) and the use of cognitive profiling for the diagnosis and clinical management of hydrocephalus, Anorexia Nervosa, traumatic brain injury and dementia.
