Background Information

Cathrine received her BSc (Hons) in Psychology at University of Stirling, Scotland. After completing her BSc she obtained a Master of Science in Organisational and Social Psychology at the London School of Economics and Political Science, London. Cathrine has also studied one year of Philosophy and Humanities at University of Bergen, Norway. At the University of Westminster Cathrine is taking a PhD, investigating well-being in older people.

Her findings so far have proved very interesting and she now wants to explore if these results are age specific or can be applied across the life span. Cathrine is looking for people who are 18 years and above to take part in this study. If you are interested you can find more information by clicking this link Well-being Questionnaire.

Alongside the PhD, Cathrine is working as a Research Fellow in the Psychology Department at the University of Westminster. She assists and support members of staff in the execution of practical and theoretical aspects of their research.

Media Work

Prof Angela Clow and Cathrine have been involved with a BBC2 programme called The Happiness Formula. In this serie they measured stress levels by a brief lunchtime visit to an art gallery by London City workers.

Cathrine has also been involved, together with Prof Frank Hucklebridge, with a BBC1 series titled Secrets of the Sexes. Frank and Cathrine explored couples physiological reactions to stress, where they showed the effect of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) on the stress hormone cortisol. The TSST involves a panel of experts silently observing an interviewee who, after five minutes of solo presentation, has to perform arithmetic calculations rigged for failure.

She has also been working with Prof Angela Clow on another BBC1 television series called The Stress Test. Each programme, in the series of 6, explored an individual's experience of stress. It has been their role to measure the stress using psychological assessment tools as well as physiological measures.
