MSc Business Psychology

Course aims

The MSc Business Psychology offers a blend of solid, analytical Human Resource Management modules along with strong, psychologically-driven modules. The emphasis is to equip participants with theoretical and analytical skills, as well as practical business psychology skills in areas such as team building, decision making, facilitation and organisational diagnostics. Specifically, the course aims to: provide students with an understanding of, and skills to work with, cultural differences in the application of HR related skills; provide students with a sound foundation in business psychology; manage effectively human resources in the private and public sector under complex, dynamic and competitive conditions; and formulate cost-effective solutions to operational human resource problems.

Course structure

On the full-time programme you will undertake four modules in semester one and two modules plus the project and option module in semester two. There are seven compulsory core modules that students must pass in order to gain the MSc in Business Psychology. These are Organisational Analysis; Team Work for Effective Organisations; Managing Human Resource; Conflict Resolution: Negotiation; Management of Competency/Skill Development programmes; Facilitated Decision Making, and the research dissertation (project).
MSc Business Psychology: Course assessment

Assessment is on the basis of course work, examination, and a project. The project is completed in the summer period for submission in September. The nature of the course work and the examination is varied and the aim is to develop analytical, writing and presentational skills. To achieve the award of Masters degree, students must successfully complete eight modules worth 15 credits each.

A Postgraduate Diploma can be awarded to students passing modules totalling 75 credits.

A Postgraduate Certificate can be awarded to students passing modules totalling 45 credits.

Entrance requirements

Candidates should normally qualify under the following criteria: a good Honours degree preferably in Business Studies, Psychology or related disciplines from a UK or other recognised institution; a professional qualification which includes a substantial business or management studies component or a postgraduate qualification in a discipline relevant to either human resource management, business or psychology. Candidates who do not meet the above requirements but have a significant amount of relevant work experience as well as the motivation to study at postgraduate level are invited to apply for admission. Each case will be considered on its own merits by the selection panel.

Study mode

The course is available in one year (12 months) full-time mode or on a part-time basis over two years.
