Credit Level 4

In the first year of the course you gain production skills through creating projects in photography, 16mm film, video and digital media. The practical work is supplemented and contextualised with modules concerning the history and theory of media, visual literacy and critical/analytical skills.

Modules include: Approaches to Media, Research and Critical Practice, Creative Media Production, Creative Media Development, Space/Place: Text/Context.

There are three course optional modules in Experimental Film and Video, Exploring Photography and Interactive Animation. Alternatively, a 'free module' may also be taken from other courses of the University.

Credit Level 5

You may choose to work in one or more areas at an advanced level, with the opportunity to produce a more extended project in the first semester in either film, video, digital media or photography. In the second semester you work on a cross-media project to develop your adaptability and awareness of current changes in media production methods.

Workshops focus on key concepts for each medium and explore conventional and experimental work. These are complemented both by studying theories of the media chosen, and through a series of keynote lectures and seminars exploring a range of theoretical perspectives and positions.

Professional practice is emphasised in a series of seminars and workshops, and supported by a period of placement within the media industry. Industry professionals are brought in to give advice and guidance to students.

Modules include: Innovation, Convergent Media, Critical Theory 1 and 2, Professional Practice, Film / Photography / New Media Theory.

Options include exhibition, animation, sound, scriptwriting or a free module from the University.

Credit Level 6

You will conceive, research and complete a major project in media of your choice. This large-scale, self-directed work is supported by a dissertation that extends the scope of research in an area negotiated with empathetic staff from the team.

Other modules support the production of work for show reels and portfolios aimed at employment in the media industries or postgraduate study.

Modules include: Major Project, Dissertation, Minor Project, Professional Launchpad.

Students may also choose a free module from the University.
