Summary
This multidisciplinary group allows the varying impacts of lifestyle choices (traditionally linked to both nutrition and physical activity) to be integrated with interests in endocrinology, microbial and neurophysiology in several disease states. Current work includes:
1. Diabetes: a disease traditionally associated with older populations but which threatens youngsters due to poor nutrition and lack of exercise. Research interests span patient experience, practitioner knowledge, public health interventions and interactions between lifestyle choices and microbial aspects in complications such as diabetic foot.
2. Fertility and womens health: brings together interests in fertility, sexually transmitted diseases and health inequalities across the globe. We already have strong collaborations through St Georges Hospital, London and The Suzanne Mubarak Regional Centre for Womens Health and Development, Alexandria, Egypt.
3. Obesity: a key government target in the UK, our group considers integration of policies existing in other countries to improve nutrition using cheaply and locally sourced products, as well as novel therapeutics and their roles in weight loss.
4. Nutrigenomics: an area of commonality and growing interest.
5. Education and CPD related to health issues: utilises our combined teaching skills to enhance public understanding of science.
The mix of practioners and academic researchers brings together an exciting range of talents and resources that can be harnessed to enhance our future research. For information about PhD programs, please see the PhD student site.

Health and Well-being
Health and well-being are intimately related. Health can affect the sense of well-being and well-being can in turn impact on the immune system and affect health.
