MDI/SIDA Fee Waiver Scholarships MA in Diversity and the Media for Egyptian students

Amount: Full tuition fee waivers.
Eligibility: You must hold an offer for the full-time MA in Diversity of Media.
Criteria: Academic or professional excellence and promise as outlined in the applicants’ scholarship applications.
Deadline: 31 May 2012

These are funded by the Media Diversity Institute (MDI) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and cover the full cost of overseas tuition fees for the MA in Diversity and the Media of the University of Westminster starting in September 2012.

Students will need to be able to meet their own living costs.

The deadline for scholarship applications is 31 May 2012. In order to be eligible, before applying for the scholarships applicants should be already holding an offer of a place on the course. Deadline for applications for a place on the course is 31 March 2012.

The criteria for selection are academic or professional excellence and promise as outlined in the applicants’ scholarship applications.

About the University of Westminster MA in Diversity and the Media

  • How is ethnicity, faith, age, gender, sexuality and disability constructed and understood in media and public discourse?
  • How can journalists, policymakers or activists develop responsible and sensitive approaches to social diversity and its representation?
  • How can inclusive journalism and activism inform processes of democratisation, development and post-conflict governance? 
  • How can organisations develop effective intercultural communication strategies or campaigns around social diversity?

Combining theory and practice, the University of Westminster MA in Diversity and the Media is a unique and highly innovative course designed to 

  • Give you a sound and critical grasp of the role of the media in the social construction, representation and public understanding of difference and social diversity 
  • Develop a critical understanding of the relevant social and media structures, journalistic and cultural practices
  • Foster skills in inclusive journalism, advocacy and campaigning. 

Students will be part of a bustling, multicultural academic department with access to the expertise of Westminster’s top-rated Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) and the extensive inclusive journalism training expertise of the Media Diversity Institute, a non-profit organisation working internationally to encourage responsible media coverage of diversity.

  • Existing media practitioners media relations and communications professionals
  • Students who want to pursue a career in 
    • the media (print, broadcast or online) or communication; media work with national/local government
    • IGOs or NGOs focusing on immigration, equality, social inclusion, cohesion, development and community regeneration 
  • Anyone who intends to embark on a relevant research/academic career
