Undergraduate scholarships
National Scholarship Programme
With the new undergraduate fee structure the UK government has set up a National Scholarships Programme (NSP) which is jointly funded by the Government and the University. These scholarships are primarily for students with a family income of less than £25,000 p.a. who are domiciled in England. The criteria for NSP awards take into account the applicant’s whole profile and include the expectation of academic and/or creative excellence. Students must hold an offer of a place on a course at the University of Westminster, conditional or unconditional. Applications must be received before the 2 April 2012 (23 April 2012 for courses in Media, Art and Design). Students will be informed of the result of their application before the date on which they have to make their final choice of University (5 May 2012). During the confirmation of results in August 2012 the offer of a National Scholarship will be confirmed shortly after the offer of admission.
Please note that academic excellence is not an absolute criterion and will vary from course to course. For example, if a course demands 2 As and a B at A2*, students will be expected to have 3 As. If a course requires lower entry standards then a student may be eligible for a scholarship with lower grades but these will always be higher than the offer made to the student for course entry. This is to ensure that scholarships are spread fairly across the University’s courses and not clustered in high entry qualification areas.
A National Scholarship payment is made in two halves. A total of £3000 is provided in the first year; typically this will be solely as a fee waiver or a partial fee waiver and a grant for learning materials or travel. The University of Westminster will match this over the following two years with payments totalling £3000. This may be given as fee waivers, cash or other benefit. In order to keep the scholarship students will be expected to achieve certain minimum standards at the end of years 1 and 2 of their course. Full details will be included in the student’s offer letter if they are awarded a scholarship. We expect that most offers of scholarships will be made conditional on students achieving the required grades.
* A levels are quoted as an example, other qualifications are also eligible.
Detailed information on the criteria for the National Scholarships Programme awards at the University of Westminster can be found here.
Application forms will be available here from 1 December.
The University of Westminster Scholarship scheme
The principal differences between the national programme and the University’s are that whilst financial need will be a criterion, applicants are not confined to those from families with an income of less than £25,000 per annum. All other criteria are the same.
We are offering £2000 fee waivers for each of the three years of study, conditional on satisfactory academic progress. This normally means students must maintain an academic average of 60% at the end of years 1 and 2.
Application forms will be available here from 1 December.
Please ensure you complete the correct form as the two schemes have separate application processes.
DEADLINE: 2 April 2012.
Please note courses in the School of Media, Arts and Design have a later deadline of 23 April 2012.
All completed scholarship application forms must be submitted by the deadlines to:
