Student experience
These comments are taken from the exit questionnaires given to our Study Abroad students at the end of their stay:
"When working in groups for classes try as hard aspossible to work with people from different countries. It can be an amazing experience learning about other cultures and often times provides more of an education that the actual academic activity."
"Papers are more in-depth. Less assignments but they were much larger - it was a good difference - a challenge"
"Do things throughout the semester so that at the end when you have exams you won't also be rushing around trying to fit everything in that you haven't seen in London yet.
"Don't expect that the first group of people that you meet are going to be the ones that you end up being the closest to at the end. "
"BUDGET!!! Use that NUS (National Union of Students) card and ALWAYS ask for a concession, some places don't advertise that they have a student discount (e.g. Snappy Snaps)."
"Expect the learning to be totally different. Don't think it is like home but with a few differences. It will make it easier to handle."
"Bring money and lots of it. You will need it. Even though a kebab is only £2.70, they add up. So does the pub. "
"Go to class and take the internship option, it's the best choice I made here."
"Don't buy all of your course books - use the library - or you'll just have to take them all home with you!"
"The system of teaching here is totally different. Students are expected to motivate themselves in terms of research and coursework."
"Have a daily/weekly budget and stick to it. Cook for yourself when you can, it's cheaper and tastes better."
"Every time you go out, go someplace different. Get a very detailed map book and carry it with you. Buy an umbrella and always carry it with you, and keep a spare at home. Get Time Out. "
