Care leavers advice

The University of Westminster has a commitment to supporting students who have been in care.  We would like to help you during your time at University.

Studying at University is an exciting experience but it can also be a time of anxiety and confusion for any student.  We have arranged for a link person to assist you during your time at Westminster.  Anne McGrath is a Student Adviser and she is the Care Leavers link person who will provide you with guidance and information on a range of subjects such as: Information about student funding, assistance in liaising with your Local Authority, help with University accommodation and help accessing University Services.

If you have been in the care of Social Services and you are under the age of 25 you may be eligible to receive a Care Leavers Grant from the University after you enrol on your course.   If you ticked the box on your UCAS application form indicating that you are a care leaver, the University will be notified of this and you should be contacted about this grant. You will need to submit an application form to be considered for this grant. Application forms will be available in October after the start of your course as you must be enrolled before you can apply.  Part of this form has to be completed by Social Services. Prospective students, intending to start an undergraduate degree course in September 2011 should also visit the University Scholarships page for information about the Care Leavers Scholarships. 

It is advisable to contact your Local Authority Leaving Care Services in order to find out what funding they have available for care leavers in full-time education.
